I beat my body up training for triathlons and marathons throughout the year. Ray is responsible for keeping my body in working order during those hard training periods. I have been going to Lutz Massage for sometime now and have always seen Shelly. She is amazing!! I just returned from a 3 week trip to Europe where I was carrying a 50 pound backpack of equipment everywhere. Needless to say, my upper back was completely knotted and in serious pain. After reading some of the good reviews about Lutz Massage (and the fact that it’s a local business), I gave in to the pain and managed to get an appointment for that day! Shelly spent most of the hour on my back doing deep tissue massage and now my back feels so much better! I’ll definitely return for more!

I was in a auto accident h and ended up having shoulder surgery, the recovery was horrible I went to Ray he helped me get the muscles stretched and helped my pain. I have neck issues also and he has keep me out of surgery by working on me every other week. I feel like I am walking into my family’s home when I walk into the office.

I saw Rochelle and she was awesome. She found knots in my back that I didn’t even know I had. She also suggested some exercises that I could do that would help with my posture issues. I recommend her and Lutz Massage. Very reasonable prices for quality services. Forget about chain massage clinics!

I became a new client about two months ago and I considered myself to have multiple issues from arms to shoulders, hips, and lower back. In one session, Ray was able to give me total relief in a classic case of tennis elbow – I mean total relief! No more pain. 1.) your LMT does a quick visual postural assesment before you massage session (if you have specific muscle issues that are in pain or imbalances.) a good massage therapist will do this to determine while standing which muscles are symptomatic and which muscle are problematic. This simply means what muscles are causing you pain and which ones should be massaged to alleviate the pain. A great massage therapist will know the difference. The novice will not and will usually work all the muscles that you pointed out leaving you out of balance an later needing another massage.
2.) an excellent massage therapist will know specific muscle names, functions, and locations. This is a simple test that takes only minutes to get results to weed out the novice from the pro!
3.) Really great massage therapists really don’t need you to tell them where to push, you will find a great massage therapist’s hands already in the right place before you have to tell them. Skilled LMT’s have honed their palpation skills like a fine instrument. If you have to tell them ”a little to the left, no up, a little more to the right” then you are dealing with a novice.
4.) HAve you ever felt exposed on the massage table due to poor draping? NOVICE! Did the therapist fumble with the sheets like they were unsure of where things should go? Amateur! A great therapist can do a massage blindfolded and the draping would still be secure and perfect.
5.) Did your massage therapist have good “flow?” Flow is is just like breathing. When you are scared or excited you pant and when your are relaxed you have a calm breathing pattern that keeps you in a relaxed state. For a therapist, this is a skill that takes a while to perfect. Have you had a massage where the therapist’s hands were moving really fast, without direction, and no subtle transition to the next body part (choppy or jumpy?) Those are novice red flags! Imagine long strokes that are patterned by a calm breathing. There is a natural rhythm in breathing. The experienced therapist knows this technique and as the recipient of massage you will know the difference when your therapist has good “Flow.”
6.) A massage should be felt, never heard! A novice will make noise (not just talking noise either.) What I mean is that an expert will try their best to control the environment to avoid their own noises (like heavy breathing, coughing, squeaky table, bad music, etc) or ambient noises that will take your focus off relaxing. Small details are considered where the excellent massage therapist is concerned. Not so much with the novice.

What’s in a name? Well, if it is your business’ name then there is alot in a name!
The title of this post is the exact page title that ME used on their website to boost their ranking on Google and other search engines that crawl for the keyword Lutz massage. See for yourself! Search ‘Lutz Massage’ in google and look at ME rank in the organic search. I asked the management to take this page down and/or change the wording to avoid confusing consumers in thinking that LM and ME were possible one in the same. Currently, the page name is the same and they never responded the Better Business Bureau complaint that was filed months ago. The owner of ME didn’t understand how this verbiage was wrong, unfair, and misleading. I did a little digging and found that this may be a tactic that they ME web masters use to squash the small business owner’s online business.
Try this one, Google ‘South Tampa Massage’ and you will find this: Massage Therapy at South Tampa Massage Therapy at Massage Envy. Looks pretty familiar right!? Is this good business practice or a big FOUL for ball-hogging? I will let you decide. Lutz Massage is a family owned and operated business that doesn’t want to be confused with ME (in any way shape or form!)
I wrote this post for two reasons. First, I wanted to see is this post would show on a Google search for Massage envy, Lutz Massage Envy, or Massage Envy Lutz. I really don’t know what to call them or what they call themselves (officially.)

Have you ever gone to a massage establishment where they offered an awesome price for a one-hour massage. Excited at the cost (usually $39) you booked the appointment never thinking twice. You arrive several minutes early at 2:50pm for paperwork and the usual dialogue associated with type of massage and the discomfort you may be experiencing. The therapist leaves you in the room to disrobe and prepare yourself for the massage. Your massage appointment time was scheduled at 3:00pm. You notice the clock reads 3:02pm just before you lay on the table. The therapist enters at 3:05pm and the massage begins. Somewhere between your back and feet you fall into a deep sleep. You awake to the therapist telling you to “take your time, we will see you up front” it’s now 3:50pm and your massage is complete. You pay and tip for your massage while thinking “where was the hour?”
Many massage places are known for this exact scenario. This is actually one of the ways to determine if you are in a massage studio that has your best interest in mind or theirs. To deliver a thorough massage the therapist typically needs 60 full minutes. The 50-minute massage will go by really fast and the therapist can’t fully work the full body in that amount of time. The franchised approach to massage has made the massage experience highly accessible yet generic and non-personal and this is just one other way that they have failed the massage profession. Prior to booking a massage you should always look at the fine print. It will usually state that your session will include a 50-minute massage session. This verbiage is usually nestled right under the special offer in a font size so small it is usually lost in the ad.
Why the 50-minute hour? It’s a simple way to schedule more and do less! Some places will even cut your massage contact time by as much as 15 minutes and tell you that this is time for the client to undress and re-dress. When was the last time it took you 15 minutes to take off and put back on your clothes?
The solution to this problem is to do your research. When you are selecting a new massage studio that you know nothing about, call and ask questions. Ask everything you want to know prior to scheduling your appointment. If the studio has a website, get familiar with it and if you still can’t find all the info there, call and ask more questions. A reputable massage studio will be upfront with you on massage time, cost, and any other details you want to query. You will find their website tobe easy to understand and full of information that will make it easy for you to book your massage appointment with confidence.
For this post I only discussed the 50-minute massage, but this 10-minute deduction occurs on every massage appointment (if the studio you choose has this as a policy.) Here’s my suggestion: If you have another massage studio to visit in your area, check with them before scheduling with the “50-minute massage place.” A massage studio that charges you the special rate for an hour and delivers only 50-minutes of massage time is more likely to scam you in other ways (i.e. massage membership contracts with no way out, no-show fees, required tips!) Look for the massage studio that offers 60-minutes of “contact time!” When you call and ask, say this: “The hour massage that you are advertising for $39, does that mean 60-minutes of massage contact time?” The response you receive will help you determine if you should book that appointment or keep looking for another place.

Finally we are able to come up with a web site to compliment our Massage Salon. Our website now also has a blog. We will be able to communicate with our visitors and clients through our blog. More importantly we will be able to get your comment and feedback.
We do not see massage salons keeping a blog on their website. Actually, since majority of the massage salons have a franchise tag on them, there is no quality blog that people can follow. We hope that we can close this gap with our new website and provide useful information for everyone to have a healthier life.
